All About Families Newsletter April 28, 2009 Norman Bales, editor CONTENTS JUST VISITING FEATURE ARTICLE JUST VISITING About a month and a half ago Ann fell and broke both the tibia and the fibula in her right leg. Obviously this has curtailed her activities quite a bit. There’s always a silver lining in every cloud, and one of hers has been the opportunity to read more. Today we’re featuring a review of _Either You’re in or in the Way_. I find it fascinating because I’m the son of twin brother. His twin was almost a second father to me. In this book you read the story of two brothers as they faced more than their share of life’s burden. It’s not presented as a Christian book, but it has a powerful message. The publication date is today, and you’ll find it on Amazon and Barnes and Noble among other places. Authors: Logan and Noah Miller Logan and Noah Miller, identical twins raised as roofers in Northern California, dreamed of being baseball stars. When that dream failed, they found professional success as bingo callers. Always staying together, the brothers were briefly suckered into the world of modeling, somehow avoided the circus, and finally with seventeen credit cards, pursued a career in filmmaking. In 2006, the brothers were awarded the Panavision New Filmmaker Grant, and their screenwriting, directorial and acting debut Touching Home premiered at the San Francisco International Film Festival in 2008. They live in California and hold no degrees. Subject: Two brothers fulfill a promise to their father Publisher, Date of publication: April 28,2009 Recommendation: Recommended REVIEW: The events of this book may bring to mind events in your own life or the lives of friends that could mirror the lives of Logan and Noah Miller. Their story is a roller coaster of emotions (and I hate roller coasters). I found myself wondering how so many good and bad things could happen to one person, let alone two. But if you know any identical twins, you know that their actions mimic those of the twins you know. During my growing up years I was never around twins. My introduction to identical twin brothers came when I started dating and eventually married a man whose father was an identical twin. I was shocked at the way they acted and spoke. It was like looking at two people who were actually one. When I read the Miller’s book, it brought back lots of memories. I have worked with a lot of dysfunctional families and the Miller family would certainly fall in that category. I would recommend the book to anyone who is faced with an addictive family member. It would encourage you to see how two young men loved an alcoholic father and tried to do everything to help him move away from his problem and yet still were able to go on with their lives. They speak of the love they have for him and that they pray for him daily. The still have a close and loving relationship with their mother, who even though divorced from their father, keeps up with his life. You will find it difficult to put the book down after you start reading. It is easy to read, holds your attention and keeps you wanting to know what is going to happen next. Some readers may find the language in portions of the text offensive. Even knowing that people who live under certain conditions or work in certain jobs use these words daily, I found it difficult to stay focused on those areas in the book. But the story itself keeps you hoping that the two young men will be successful. The book was written to tell the story in more detail about the movie they made to fulfill a promise they made to their father before his death. The movie is entitled Touching Home. The book’s publication date is April 28, 2009. ADDRESSES Central Church of Christ 1500 First Avenue NW Cedar Rapids, IA 52403 Norman Bales: nlbales@... Ann Bales: Ann@...
