"If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love,
I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal...." (1 Cor 13:1).

WOW! -I know this is common knowledge and a very familiar
Scripture, but in I Corinthians 13 a picture is drawn that I just saw
in a fuller light. In the first few verses it says that without love, we
literally are nothing, regardless of whatever else we do.

I am going to describe a gifted man for you and I want you to
imagine him in your mind.... Ready?
He 1.) speaks in tongues (both in another unknown foreign
language of man and in an angelic heavenly language).
2.) He also has the gift of prophecy.
3.) He also can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge.
4.) He also has faith that can move mountains.
5.) He also sold all he had and gave it away to the poor.
6.) Finally, he freely gave his body to be burned for the Gospel's
sake and was a martyr!!

What do you think of a guy like that? WOW!! Saint of saints, right?
Hero of the faith. Spirit of Elijah returns. Dedicated. Disciplined.
Commited to the death. Full of faith and power. Gifted beyond
measure. Would you even consider the possibility that despite all
this, he could be just a loud, noisy cymbal? That he could gain
nothing by all this? That he could actually be nothing? Nothing.

Gift of tongues, gift of prophecy, word of wisdom, word of
knowledge, mountain-moving faith, sold it all and gave it away to
the poor, and martyred for the sake of the Gospel. Yet, he could
actually be NOTHING before God. Meditate on that. WOW. I don't
know if anyone else needed to weigh carefully on these words,
but I do. We need a baptism of holy love.

Baptize me in your love Lord. Take me down into the waters of love
and bury my selfishness and apathy underneath the surface.
Baptize me with your love, that I may pour it back out at your feet
in worship, in your compassion for a lost and dying world, and in a
selfless love of servant-hood for the brethren. Hallelujah to the Lamb of
