Abda Ministries - A ministry of Prayer and Praise Week commencing 2nd April 2006 Prayer Letter No 290 Bible Reading for Week from God's word God's Glory Endures Forever! Our LORD, we pray that your glory will last forever and that you will be pleased with what you have done. You look at the earth, and it trembles. You touch the mountains, and smoke goes up. As long as I live, I will sing and praise you, the LORD God. I hope my thoughts will please you, because you are the one who makes me glad. Destroy all wicked sinners from the earth once and for all. With all my heart I praise you, LORD! I praise you! Ben got an email from a company that didn't hire him for a position, but they offered another lower paying one and he accepted! He starts Tuesday in Tampa. God is great, and when Ben got the email, he told me, "Thank you Jesus" which for him is more than he said about Jesus in the last year. I thanked Jesus too for looking out for us and for all the prayers we received. I ask him to look after your needs and the people who prayed so hard, to fill their needs too. It may not save the car from repo but if we can get food on the table and pay the mortgage I am totally thrilled! The things of the world pass away but only Gods truth lives on! From: "Abraham and Mercy Ponniah" <poniah@...> I am urged to share with you about the happenings in Sri Lanka. First of all let me thank you for your concern and prayers for Sri Lanka. God is at work. The Local Government Election which was held two days back has brought a very clear message to the people who are against the Christians in Sri Lanka. As I have mentioned in my emails to you, the group which was vehemently attacking and making all types of noises against the Christians have got a very clear message. They had big ideas, but they are now pushed to the bottom of the vote bank by their own people. Even the areas where they had their holy places (for them not for us) have lost. The people of this nation have given a clear message that the peace process which is now taken up by the present government is to be taken forward. The people of Sri Lanka as a whole have said that they are not interested in unnecessary violence and disturbance but want to prosper. Please continue to pray for our President and for our nation. Sri Lanka is for Jesus. From: "John Martens" martens@... Here are a couple of update items for your encouragement and information. Trip to Indiana I just returned from a whirlwind trip to Indiana. I arrived in Terra Haute Saturday night at 10:30 after being on the road since 6 that morning. I spoke Sunday morning and evening at Maryland Community Church. And on Monday I met with the Elders of the church for several hours. There was a joyous spirit through the entire meeting. Then, on Tuesday morning, I spent 2 hours with some new friends who took me to the airport. I got back to Maple Ridge at about 10 pm only to get up at 6 AM on Wednesday for an early breakfast with some men. Like I said it was whirlwind, but it was also a great blessing. At least 5 groups (or teams or classes) came up to me and said they wanted to come on mission trips to Vancouver. The message I shared was about "Faith that takes risks" and several people came up to me and told me how the message had changed their lives. After the evening service (which has some pretty hard driving music and is filled with college kids) one college "couple" wanted to pray with me and ended up crying for nearly 15 minutes. God allowed me to touch other lives and let them touch mine. Just before I left, one fellow gave us a bass guitar. He said that he noticed it on our "Wish List" and realized he had an extra one. My heart leapt when I thought how delighted Tiffany would be. So I repacked all my stuff and managed to take the bass on the plane as a carry one. (It was funny. People in the airport looked at me with new admiration - they must have thought that I was a musician! J) Media Camp Just before my trip, we had finished a week long media camp. You probably already read about it in our last newsletter. But let me share a few things you might not know. For one, all the kids from this area that came to the camp were unchurched. As far as I know, one had never been to church before. His parents own 2 upscale restaurants. And one was a young Hindu girl. Let me tell you about her. Tiffany and I had coached Ashley Singh at volleyball, and her mother, Dolly, often walks past our place on her way to school. I had been praying for them but never thought they would be open to a "church thing." I knew they were very "Hindu". But one day I went out and met Dolly and shared what we were doing. Initially, she said that Ashley could not come. But I prayed some more and the day camp started Dolly was there with her eldest daughter. Each day after camp I would make sure I said hello to Dolly or Raj (Ashley's dad) and Jocelyn (Ashley's 8 year old sister). Although we did no Bible studies or prayer time, the leaders, Kyle & David, shared several times how Jesus changed their lives and how God answered their prayers. Ashley was always right there. One time when David was sharing Ashley was listening very intently. And at the end of camp we did some interview and Ashley said, "I thought it might be fun to do a media camp; but I never thought it would be this much fun." The following week we had a Veggie Tale movie at our house and both Ashley and her sister Jocelyn came. God is working. Media camp was one of those awesome experiences that changed all of us. I remember when it was all over and everyone was out of our house, I looked at Tiffany and we both sighed with relief: but then we talked about it, and realized that although we were physically tired we were not the least bit emotionally or spiritually tired. Most of that was due to the character of the camp leaders but it was also because we sensed God's presence all week. So you can imagine our excitement when, within a week, Kyle said that they would like to come back this summer - hold a larger camp, for maybe 30 kids - and make a 30 minute movie. Wow! Pray for this possibility. This would be huge and allow us to advertise something unique: people don't think of "church", "movie", and "exciting" in the same thoughts. Maybe we can change that. This will also give us a chance to work with up to 30 young people who might have little or no church background. (Remember, we're not aiming at the "church crowd" with our events.) But it could also be costly. We need to cover Kyle & David's expenses, buy "shooting license", and maybe even rent some equipment. We are estimating at least $3,000. This is a huge figure, I know, but we look back at this first camp - where Kyle & David got their plane tickets on faith and within a week God had supplied over $1200 - and we know that God can do it. Now where will we meet with such a group? Not in our house! No. The answer lies in the next section. A new location For about 2 months I had been praying that God would supply us a place where we could meet on a regular basis. One day, when I was printing an outreach mailer I noticed an upstairs photo studio close to the print shop. I told myself that this would be a great location. On a whim I went up and met Oliver who gladly showed me around his 1600 sq. ft. studio. Then, to my surprise, he said that he was moving out in May. (I could not believe it. I had been praying and just "happened" to check out the one place where the resident just "happened" to be moving out. It all seemed too strange.) He told me the lease was about 800 dollars; with power and taxes it came to about $1000/month. This all seemed reasonable, but it was still beyond what we could afford. I went home and shared the idea with my friend Steve. We prayed and checked out our options. To rent the elementary school for just 1 hour on a Saturday night cost over $200 (and now with the principal out due to cancer, things had suddenly become much harder for us in the school). There were two other places in Maple Ridge. One had about 1000 sq ft and went for 1800/month (plus taxes & power). Another was 1600 sq ft but went for 3200/month. Steve and I both felt that God had led us to this new location. We needed a space of our own. So, while the media camp was going on in our house, I signed a one year lease in my office. As if to confirm our choice, the real estate agent said that her father (who owns the property) had a heart for churches and was ready to throw in $1000 to help cover the cost of new carpet when we were ready to do that. A little while later Steve said that a local hardware store said they would sell us any lumber, paint or other supplies at cost (which can be 1/2 the retail at times). An aside on Oliver: I have remained friends with Oliver and had a chance to listen to his spiritual journey and share about Jesus for over 2 hours the other day. God is working. And Debby: The real estate agent is a singe mom. I shared with her our love for single moms and invited her to join us when we are meeting there. She seemed interested. And just yesterday I found out that her son is on Adam's baseball team. So we'll see her on a regular basis. Wow! God is working. We are very excited about this new location. It will require some painting, a little construction, and much beautification) but we will start meeting there in the beginning of May and just work around us. Pray for us as we take this extra step of faith. It is beyond our present resources. Pray that our support base will grow. Pray that we can use this building as a "sacred space" for people. Pray that we might be able to use the "fixing up" time to draw in people to help and become part of our team. Our Weekly Thought God's Eternal Ink I dreamed I was in heaven where an angel kept God's book. He was writing so intently I just had to look. It was not, at first, his writing that made me stop and think But the fluid in the bottle That was marked eternal ink. This ink was most amazing, Dark black upon his blotter But as it touched the parchment It became as clear as water. The angel kept on writing, But as quickly as a wink The words were disappearing With that strange eternal ink. The angel took no notice, But kept writing on and on. He turned each page and filled it Until all its space was gone. I thought he wrote to no avail, His efforts were so vain For he wrote a thousand pages That he'd never read again. And as I watched and wondered that This awesome sight was mine, I actually saw a word stay black As it dried upon the line. The angel wrote and I thought I saw A look of satisfaction. At last, he had some print to show For all his earnest action. A line or two dried dark and stayed As black as black can be, But strangely the next paragraph Became invisible to see. The book was getting fuller, The angel's records true, But most of it was blank, with Just a few words coming through. I knew there was some reason, But as hard as I could think, Could not grasp the significance Of that eternal ink. The mystery burned within me, And I finally dared to ask The angel to explain to me Of his amazing task. And what I heard was frightful As the angel turned his head. He looked directly at me, And this is what he said... I know you stand and wonder At what my writing's worth But God has told me to record The lives of those on earth. The book that I am filling Is an accurate account Of every word and action And to what they do amount. And since you have been watching I must tell you what is true; The details of my journal Are the strict accounts of YOU. The Lord asked me to watch you As each day you worked and played. I saw you as you went to church, I saw you as you prayed. But I was told to document Your life through all the week. I wrote when you were proud and bold, I wrote when you were meek. I recorded all your attitudes Whether they were good or bad. I was sorry that I had to write The things that make God sad. So now I will tell the wonder Of this eternal ink, For the reason for its mystery Should make you stop and think. The ink that God created To help me keep my journal Will only keep a record of Things that are eternal. So much of life is wasted On things that matter not So instead of my erasing, Smudging ink and ugly blot... I just keep writing faithfully and Let the ink do all the rest For it is able to decide What's useless and what's best. And God ordained that as I write Of all you do and say Your deeds that count for nothing Will just disappear away. When books are opened someday, As sure as heaven is true; The Lord's eternal ink will tell What mattered most to you. If you just lived to please yourself The pages will be bare, And God will issue no reward For you when you get there. In fact, you will be embarrassed, You will hang your head in shame > Because you did not give yourself In love to Jesus' Name. Yet maybe there will be a few Recorded lines that stayed That showed the times you truly cared, Sincerely loved and prayed. But you will always wonder As you enter heaven's door How much more glad you would have been If only you'd done more. For I record as God sees, I do not stop to even think Because the truth is written With God's eternal ink. When I heard the angel's story I fell down and wept and cried For as yet I still was dreaming I hadn't really died. And I said: O angel tell the Lord That soon as I awake I'll live my life for Jesus-I'll do all for His dear sake. I'll give in full surrender; I'll do all He wants me to; I'll turn my back on self and sin And whatever isn't true. And though the way seems long and rough I promise to endure. I am determined to pursue the things That are holy, clean and pure. With Jesus as my helper, I will win lost souls to Thee, For I know that they will live With Christ for all eternity. And that is what really matters When my life on earth is gone That I will stand before the Lord And hear Him say, well done. ~ Author Unknown ~ Prayer Requests If you have a prayer request or praise report that you would like to be added to the weekly prayer list please send it to mailto:scarcee@...?Subject=Prayer_List_Request Sites that you may wish to visit If you are interested in seeing what God is doing in the Great South Land of the Holy Spirit (Australia) please look at http://www.coc.org.au 0r http://www.hillsong.com.au Other Sites Free Bible Software http://www.e-sword.net/ Heritage Christian School http://www.heritage.nsw.edu.au/ This is sent to those who have sent a written request for it.
