As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord ´
“Igniting soul’s through the proclamation of Jesus Christ”.
Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. See what this godly sorrow has produced in you, what earnestness, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what concern, what readiness to see justice done.
This is an activity for all to enjoy and learn in, write as well as read. We call this "Weekend Scripture Share", as you will clearly see why. What we would like everyone to do is to post any verse or portion of the Word from your Bible. Along with the portion of Scripture you may place thought, comment, or question. The post does not need be long or short, can be one verse and simply said, "my favorite". Please do share with us and leave the subject line, or write in “Weekend Scripture Share”. For the weekly addition of “Tuesday Scripture” and “Weekend Scripture Share”, I have been composing through the Spirit as I study, verse by verse, or portion by portion, from the Book of 2 Corinthians. I am at the seventh Chapter of the Word.
2 Cor. 7:10-11, “For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.”
Here is another facet in the practical elements of the "faith-based" life. Paul demonstrates two kinds of sorrow, Godly sorrow and worldly sorrow. Here is a parable to illustrate the concepts. There once was a man who offended his community. His offense required that he be separated from the community so he was placed in a jail cell. The cell had no food or water. Everyday his wife placed food and water outside the cell wall. The man did not know that the food and water was there and was unable to get to it. In order to have the sustenance a mediator with authority had to command that the man be allowed access. His wife pleaded with a judge who ordered that a portal be cut in the wall of the jail just large enough to receive these life sustaining elements and be told they are available. So the man lived separated from the community in a closed environment until his sentence was fulfilled. He survived only because access was provided to the other community through the portal.
Now listen up. The earth is a closed system like a jail cell. Outside the atmosphere is it impossible for a human being to survive. Additionally it is separated from the Kingdom of God, where God dwells, Heaven, if you will. Like the man in the jail survival depends upon access to God. Without that access the human being shrivels and dies in a hopeless condition of death and decay. God had compassion and came to earth as the man. His sinless life, sacrifice and resurrection provide a portal through which human beings receive eternal life, hope, love, encouragement, purpose, healing and a future. Without His intervention mankind would not survive. As a consequence there are two types of sorrow that have utterly different results.
Godly sorrow reaches out for help from God though the portal provided through Jesus Christ. All that do so receive what is needed to identify the cause of the sorrow and correct the situation. The Corinthians experienced sorrow when they displeased Paul. The sorrow produced a desire to receive ability, wisdom, understanding and power from God to correct the core cause of the situation and put it right. Paul understood this kind of sorrow having lived most of his life thinking he served God by killing Christians. His sincere heart led him to repentance when Christ revealed Himself in a way Paul could not ignore. Godly sorrow always produces a zealous desire to draw close to God and receive what is needed to grow, change, mature, and become healthier stronger servants. Godly sorrow is never indignant, it never feels slighted and it is not offended or threatened by the fact of human failings. Godly sorrow always results in a resurrection to new life in Christ. It produces a new character, less fear, stronger resolve, greater humility, more dependence on God, greater trust in God, less vulnerability, a clearer vision, more confidence in Him and less dependence on self. In Christ sorrow never matures into death. It always matures into a more abundant, freer, fuller and more victorious life.
Worldly sorrow does the opposite. The world is a closed system without hope. When a person does not believe that there is any source other than the elements and abilities this earth provides there is no hope for gaining value from mistakes because there is no forgiveness associated with the worldly system. The concept of forgiveness originates with God and all acts of forgiveness come because God make it possible to forgive.
Anyone who may be moved in the spirit to respond or blessed to participate please feel free to do so. The point of these two weekly activities have been directed and set up by God to fellowship in the Word and learn from one another. I am not a teacher, but a Brother in the Family of God and called to His fellowship. I make mistakes and certainly may not see something in the same way as you, therefore always open to corrective criticism so long as it is spoken in the Spirit and conforms with the Bible which I believe to be the Living Word of God.
Love in the Lord
