Like Father, Like Son Being a parent is an awesome responsibility. Not only are you responsible for your own soul but also for your child's. Children learn almost everything from their parents. In particular, they learn how to behave from watching how their parents behave is various situations. Jesus knew this very well and taught it: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise" (John 5:19). Jesus understood that fathers, and also mothers, teach their children simply by letting their children see what they do. If you are a parent, are you paying attention to the example you set for your children? Do they see or hear you behave in a manner that would not be acceptable in public or do they see you acting like our heavenly Father? Parents are certainly not the only people children learn from but they are their children's first and greatest influence. Even if you are not a parent, it is part of your role as a Christian to set the right example for children and others to follow. Or as the apostle Paul put it "Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ" (1 Cor. 11:1).
