Preparing a Place In reading John 14:2 notice that Jesus says ".I go to prepare a place for you." Our Lord is not saying that He will build a place for us but that He will prepare a place. In order for Jesus to prepare a place, a place needs to be there to be prepared. If you are a child of God, you can think of your place in heaven as being reserved. Jesus knows that one day you will be arriving where He is now. Therefore, to be ready for your arrival our Lord will prepare a place just for you. We should get a special feeling knowing that our Savior wants us to feel welcome when arriving home. There will be a place meant just for us just like there is a place for everyone who faithfully serves God. The Father has also prepared for our arrival: "But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city" (Heb. 11:16). The Father and Son are not waiting for us to get to heaven before preparing; they have prepared a place for us to be when we get to them. What comfort we receive knowing our home will be ready for us when we get there.
