Hello Everybody, I had a test at school Wednesday night, so this report had to wait a while. Thursday, July 2nd =============== After a two hour drive, I registered at the convention and placed some of Dave Staley's info sheets on the free info table. I dropped some of the games at the Redemption CCG booth, and set up the display and the empty DR box and the poster on the backdrop. I talked with Rob Anderson about doing a DR promotional card for Redemption, and he was all for it. I got a lot of specific questions from Dave Eadie answered, and the ArtComm has them now. I talked to Dave Easterling ( he wrote the Redemption handbook ) about DR, and he is ready to help us in a lot of ways. Doug Gray, one of Rob's elves, will be starting a DR group in September, with our help. He bought a game, and I set up some plans to go to his church to get things rolling. He is the youth pastor at a church in Loudenville, Ohio, about 1.5 hours from Akron. W I talked briefly with a Retailer/Distributor about the game market in general. Mostly, I ran demos of Rob's games. Info sheets were disappearing and some people left their addresses for future contact. A man from Chicago is going to revive his DR group, and hopefully he will help with play testing. At 4:30, I had to leave to run a four hour game, so I was not back until Friday morning. Friday July 3rd =========== I had another game to run on Friday morning, so I could not man the booth until 2pm. I met John Clemon (Risenworld), who was helping at the booth. I ran many more demos for Rob, but I did talk to several people about the DR effort. The exhibit hall closed at 6pm. Saturday July 4th ============= I met Dave Staley and crew and showed them around the place. I had another game to run, so they worked the booth until I got back at 2pm. More old DR players visited, and one new Christian that should be showing up on the list soon. I talked to Dave Easterling some more, he has many ideas, contacts, outlets, etc. He took a case of games (6) with him, and a copy for himself. He will be attending a music festival in Kentucky soon, and will let us know how the games went. The exhibit hall closed at 6pm. Sunday July 5th ============ Opened at 10am, and it was a slow day, but I talked to an artist who was interested in the effort. I am not sure that he is a believer, and he does want to be paid. Dave Eadie can interview him. Some of the drawings that he had could drop right into DR2ED with little change, in my opinion. Lots more demos for Rob. I did not run any DR demos, there were no requests, but I did have to explain it a good few times over the weekend. For the fourth time, Rob asked if we were going to go to GenCon in Milwaukee in August. I told him it would be iffy for me, finances being the big problem. None the less, I started making plans to "show up". I met a couple who will be in Jack's Cincinnati group as soon as he starts it. The hall closed at 5pm, and I stayed to help pack up the booth and get everything ready for shipping. ==================== Overall, it was a positive showing. Several old players should be pulling out dusty boxes out of closets about now. New adventures were the big request. Should I attend GenCon, which is far larger than Origins, I will run demos ( rewrite of Sorcerer's Apprentice probably) after the exhibit hall closes. I will not be running other games, but I will have to help Rob in the Redemption booth. As to Dick's question about the future of Christian RPGs: Rob Anderson has a man working on writing one based on Redemption CCG. It isn't very far along. Rob seems to think that there is a market for it, but he isn't pushing it. I did not get many details, because I didn't want to monopolize Rob's time, He was elected Vice President of GAMA ( Game Manufacturer's Association) and had meetings every time he turned around. Any questions? Joe
