Concerning stupid giants: Does anyone besides me believe that willful ignorance and willful stupidity is sin? It bothers me that many young folks today wear ignorance as a badge of honor. I think the stupid giant may teach us a great deal about what we do not wish to become. As to elvenfolk, perhaps they, like talking animals, serve the OLMN because they have chosen to do so. Also, like talking beasts, they do not need to be redeemed. But I think we can overcomplicate the game to the point that only a Philadelphia lawyer can play it, and they have their own games to play.:-) Again, sometimes the simplest solution is the best, although there is obviously a lot of creativity going on out there. As to changing DC's to demons, I would not be in favor of that. It would be too close to Flip Wilson's "The devil made me buy this dress". Every conflict with evil, though ultimately diabolic is not specifically demonic. An egotistical atheistic columnist like William Edelen is no doubt diabolically influenced, but he himself is human. At least I think so. :-) An orc is an orc. A skunk is a skunk. He can't help being a skunk, but that doesn't mean you want him for a roommate. Goblins and orcs are evil. That doesn't make them demons. It just means they are evil. The devil may be the occasion of our sin, but he is not the reason for it. I must agree that most of our struggles with sin are internal. I also must agree that we do our kids a disservice to tell them that all their problems are external. It says we are not ultimately responsible for our actions because "The orc made me do it." I don't find that to be Biblical. As to everyone having some good in them, the fact that we are made in the image of God says that there is _capacity_ for good in all human beings. The Quakers speak of looking for "that of God" in people. The reason that DC's are unredeemable is that there is nothing of God in them. They do not carry the "Imago Dei". The OLMN's sacrifice was not for them. Therefore, there is no need to make them more diabolical than they already are. They are already evil enough. To put it another way, cardiac bypass surgery is bad enough. You don't need to put in for an all-organ transplant. As far as elvenfolk and dwarves working with LR's on raids, I see no problem with that, as talking beast often do that. But I think we should stick to human LR's. There is something to be said for simplicity. Anyhow, just some random thoughts.
