The attention of the world has been focused recently on Central America
in the wake of Hurricane Mitch. Mitch has brought the worst devastation
the region has known in years, with incredible loss of life,
displacement of people from their homes, and shortages of necessary
items such as food, fuel, clean water, medicines, etc.

I have many friends who call Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador,
Guatemala, Belize, and Mexico their home. I have worked with many
international students from these countries and my alma mater, John
Brown University, has hundreds of alumni living in these countries. We
have felt the force of Mitch too.

As other "breaking news" takes precedence in the U.S. headlines,
thoughts of Central America will begin to fade from consciousness as we
relax in our heated homes and sit down to a full meal with our families
or go out and have fun with our friends. Please, do not forget Central

If you want to help, there are many ways you can do so. First and
foremost, pray. Never stop praying. The relief and rebuilding effort
will be very long and very hard, and the recovery of the people
physically, psychologically and economically will demand much spiritual

Additionally, please forward this message to anyone you know who might
be interested in helping or concerned about the situation. For
information on how you can contribute to the relief effort, please see
JBU's webpage at http://www.jbu.edu/hurricanemitch/mitch.htm or contact
me at TiaAj@... and I will refer you to some organizations which
are handling contributions.

Thank you for taking time to read this. I hope you will take it to
heart and share it with those you know. May God richly bless you and
keep you in His grace and peace.

Audra "Aj' Johnston
