Well, it IS a discussion list, so here's my two cents! Here are some of the issues: WAS THERE PHYSICAL DEATH BEFORE THE FALL? Some would say there had to be, otherwise overpopulation and hence, physical death anyway. How can we know that, though? God told ADAM to be fruitful, multiply, and subdue the earth, but does the command to multiply still apply once the earth is filled and subdued? This, of course, is assuming no fall. Here's another argument: It's possibly a moot point because God knew they would fall before they started multiplying (He said "WHEN you eat the fruit you will die, not IF you eat..."). One more thing: As far as I understand (it's in the marginal reference of my Scrolls) a more literal translation of Gen 2:17 is "...in the day that you eat of it, DYING YOU SHALL DIE." That makes good sense to me assuming it means both physical and spiritual death. And one last point: God said that Adam, Eve, and the animals could have vegetation for their food, not meat (Gen 1:29-30) It's a tricky issue though, to be sure. CAN/DOES GOD BREAK THE RULES? I think we really need to break this up into 2 kinds of rules: physical and spiritual. I get nervous when people say, "God made the rules; He can break them if He wants," or "God is sovereign and can do anything He wants any way and any time." But if He can break His word (spiritual rules), we have no grounds to trust Him or His word. He IS limited to His word by His own choice. Heb 6:18 -- "It is impossible for God to lie." Anyway if He could break the spiritual rules, wouldn't He have forgiven us without sacrificing His Son? But as far as physical scientific rules, the Scrolls don't really say what can and can't be. I figure either God breaks the rules physically, or He works within them in a way that miracles could in fact be explained scientifically, although the coincidence of those scientifically explainable "miracles" happening (with healing, walking on water, etc.) is so incredible, that we'd all have to agree it's God anyway. ARE THE 6 DAYS OF CREATION LITERAL, OR JUST SIX "PERIODS OF TIME" I personally believe they're literal. If we say that that geological evolution is true AND the bible is true (assuming 6 "periods of time") we still have a problem with the order: Evolution says that the sun and stars were created before the earth but the Word says the earth was created before the sun and stars. It also says that vegetation was created on the 3rd day and the sun was made on the 4th day. Kind of weird of these days aren't literal. By the way, someone said that the word "day" in the Hebrew can also mean a long period of time. I don't think so, but I could be wrong. Can you give me an example of where it's used that way? WAS THE FLOOD LOCAL OR GLOBAL? It had to be global, and here's why: When God made the earth, He put a layer of water above the atmosphere, which later crashed to the earth during the flood (Gen 1:7-8, Psalm 104:5-8). But before the flood, this created a sort of "greenhouse effect" and caused much higher air pressure and a higher percentage of oxygen in the atmosphere. This is what doctors would call a "hyperbaric chamber" (apparently most major hospitals have these for healing certain patients). It's a much healthier environment and would explain why the average antediluvian age was 900 years, but gradually tapered off to 70-80 years after the flood, when all of the sun's harmful rays could get through. This flood, of course would also cause catastrophic ecological and geological changes throughout the whole earth, which it did. By the way, as far as space on the ark is concerned, baby dinosaurs are very small! My thanks to Greg and all who support him for making us think critically about these things! The official Denver DragonRaid group is starting tomorrow night!!! My first time both playing and AMing. All I can say is....Dude! God Bless you all in OverLord's mighty Name Zander Renault
