I always thought of the Shield of Faith as something not physical but
allowing the lightraider a method of avoiding the blow (like dodging).  I
know that sounds more like an agility\evasion basis for it, but how else
do
you account for having 2 handed weapons along with a SoF defense?

I tend to agree with James on this one.  After all the ways that I have
been shown to defend vs attacks is just to not be there when the attack
comes in.  Now from fighting I know that it is not an easy task to do so
with the help of the shield of faith I can see it being much easier.  So
we have the current use of the SoF.
