I've noticed most players tend to go with one close weapon (sword, axe, etc.) for melee combat and one distance weapon for the long shots. Very rarely do they pull out their 1-5 damage hand axe or whatever, unless they're facing an unavoidable battle with a dragon slave and want to further reduce the damage done by their half-swing. So it's really not that much of a handicap, in practical terms. > >Does anyone allow a fix for this, say, letting > >them > >trade a weapon for a lance later on, > > I mentioned in another post that the LR should probably choose another > weapon to start out. In spite of what I just said, this does sound reasonable. There's really no reason an AM should have to put his foot down for a player whose just become a BearKnight and say, "But you should have THOUGHT to choose a lance when you first started playing!" > > or maybe, especially in the case > >of a > >Bearknight, getting the lance as an extra bonus weapon? > > I have also been toying with the idea of allowing a fourth weapon skill > after the LR reaches, say, SS 5 or so. Indeed, maybe even another > Character Skill at SS 5. Hey, now THAT sounds intruiging. Maybe not so much the fourth weapon idea (if they only favor two of their three, as I said above, why give 'em a fourth?), but adding another Character Skill as a bonus for a high SS rating is a fantastic idea, particularly since it could easily reflect experience gained in the field. (Also, it's easy enough to see a character becoming more proficient at blending with his surroundings or jawing it with the locals after a year or two of adventuring - but not as logical to assume that they'd be able to pick up a new weapon after that time, with no previous experience at it. Sure, there could be extra LL training time, I suppose, but....) - Scott
