So, Rob had it right, but reversed?  The Mist Barrier is over the expansion side of the plate.  That would be a string of volcanoes, like the coast of Iceland or the Hawaiian chain. And the Peaks would be the result of plate collision, along the lines of the earthly Himalayas.
