Read the Bible in a Year This evening read Matthew 8:1--17 A Caring Centurion Do you believe that Roman soldiers were caring people, especially Roman centurions (officers who had charge of 100 men)? Listen to the following, Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him, saying, "Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented." (Mt. 8:5, 6, NKJV) Now, picture this. A Roman approaches a Jew pleading for the well-being of the Roman's servant. This centurion was both humble and caring. There were more like him. You can read of another one in Acts 10. Many more were converted to the Lord once the church started to spread across the Roman Empire. Therefore, when you read some man's account of history be aware that you may not be hearing the whole truth. Is there another group of people of whom you have misconceptions?
