Read the Bible in a Year
This evening read Matthew 14:1--21

Accurate Interpretation of the Facts

It is important to hear the facts, then to interpret them properly.

At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the report about Jesus and said to his servants, "This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him."
(Mt. 14:1, 2, NKJV)

This passage is reminiscent of the passage we considered this morning. Pharaoh did not know Joseph, and here Herod did not know Jesus, leading Herod not to understand what was going on. He heard a report of Jesus, but Herod misinterpreted the facts. We probably all give an interpretation to what we hear, let us be sure that our interpretation is consistent with the way things truly are. Be slow to make judgments, until you know the facts for sure. It will save much grief later and it will save you much embarrassment.
