Read the Bible in a Year This evening read Matthew 21:23--46 Will Harlots Be in Heaven and You Be Outside? What a hard truth Jesus spoke to the Pharisees, Jesus said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you." (Mt. 21:31b, NKJV) The Pharisees were men who saw themselves as more spiritual than all other men, yet, Jesus said they were not spiritual at all, but so depraved that harlots would enter heaven and they would not. The Pharisees were self-righteous men. Self-righteousness is damning. Harlots know what kind of people they are, so they repent, humbling themselves before God and men. For that Jesus invites them into heaven. Ask yourself today whether you are Pharisee-like or harlot-like.
