Read Second Corinthians Chapter Four The Light of the Creation and the Light of the Gospel Genesis 1:3 is impressive, 3 Then God said, Let there be light; and there was light (Gen. 1:3, NKJV). Do not pass over lightly the profundity of that simple sentence. God said for something to happen, even light appearing out of darkness, and it happened! There was total darkness and with a few simple words, God commands light to shine out of the darkness, and suddenly it is there! Wow! Keep that in mind, as Paul now makes further application of this magnificent power of the light of God, 6 For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ (2 Cor. 4:6, NKJV). The same God, who commanded the light in the beginning of the creation, has also given light to our hearts through knowledge by means of the face of Jesus Christ. It is the latter light that God speaks of endlessly in the Scriptures rather than the light that we see with our eyes. The light in our hearts is what God wants us to experience more than any light we see with the eye. You know the greatness of light to the eye; now understand that light for the heart is far greater. Friends, the God who worked to bring us this magnificent creation is working in our hearts!
