Read the Bible in a Year This morning read Leviticus 25 Overworking The Lord God did not want Israel overworking themselves or their things, "Six years you shall sow your field, and six years you shall prune your vineyard, and gather its fruit; but in the seventh year there shall be a sabbath of solemn rest for the land, a sabbath to the LORD. You shall neither sow your field nor prune your vineyard." (Le. 25:3, 4 NKJV) You know about the Sabbath every seven days for the Israelites, but here God commanded that the land was to have a rest every seven years. They were just to leave their things along. Do not plant and do not harvest or even take care of the land. Just let it be. The Lord was so serious about this, that because Israel neglected this Sabbath for the land 70 times, that when He booted them out of the land, He determined to do it for 70 years so that the land could enjoy its Sabbaths. Read Second Chronicles 36:20, 21. In the New Testament, the Lord does not command any kind of a Sabbath for Christians, but there is an eternal principle stated in the Book of Proverbs that shows perhaps there is something that we can learn from the land Sabbaths. Do not overwork to be rich; Because of your own understanding, cease! (Pr. 23:4 NKJV) Therefore, word hard, but do not overwork. Remember to give attention to spiritual things.
