Read the Bible in a year by reading Luke 16 today

If Scripture Will Not Do It, Nothing Else Will

A rich man died and went to the place of torment. He looked across a gulf separating the place of torment from the place of paradise. What did he see? He saw an old beggar who used to be at his gate, wanting food from the rich man. The old beggar was now living in comfort and he was right next to Abraham. The rich man cried out to Abraham that he send the beggar with water because of the heat of the flame. Abraham explained why this could not be. Therefore, the rich man demanded that Abraham send the beggar to the rich man's brothers that they not come to the place of flame. Abraham explained why that could not be either and that the brothers had Moses and the Prophets to read, that is, they had the Bible. The rich man argued that the beggar going back to them from the dead would be a greater persuasive force for making them repent. However, Abraham gave the final answer when he said,

"If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead."
(Lk. 16:31 NKJV)

Friends, you probably already know and believe this, but there is no greater persuasive force in the entire world than the Holy Scriptures inspired by the Holy Spirit with the full of authority of God the Father and God the Son. Therefore, do not ever cease reading and meditating in the word of God.

Question from the text: Why did the Pharisees deride Jesus for what He said?
