Why are some things in the Bible hard to understand?

After Jesus concluded teaching on one occasion, many of His followers could not accept what He taught. 

Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard [what He taught], said, "This is a hard saying; who can understand it?" 
(Jn. 6:60) 

Some things are hard to understand in Scripture because they are either beyond our intellectual ability or beyond our present knowledge. Other things are hard to understand in Scripture because they are either beyond what we want to accept or to do. 

Therefore, the next time you find yourself either disagreeing with Scripture or not being able to understand it, find out if it is an intellectual issue with you or a spiritual issue.
