Read the Bible in a year by reading John 8:28--59 today The Humility of Jesus By Don Ruhl Jesus spoke to people so freely of things. Listen to Him speak to the Jews, Then Jesus said to them, "When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things." (Jn. 8:28 NKJV) This is amazing. Did you hear Him speak freely, revealing to them that they will lift Him up? Here He prophesied of His own death, speaking of it so matter-of-factly. He looked at the very people who would do it. Then He spoke so freely, of how they would react to His death, that they would finally know that He was the Messiah, that He did not do His ministry from His own desire, but that it was all of the Father. This also shows His humility. He willing died because that was what the Father told Him to do. He is the Son of God, and the Creator of the world and the universe, but the Father taught Him and He accepted that teaching. He sits on a throne in heaven, but He does nothing of Himself! If Jesus was or is that way, how should we be? Question from the text: The Jews said that Jesus was not yet how many years old?
