Read the Bible in a year by reading Isaiah 59-61 today

Does God Hear Your Prayers?
By Don Ruhl

When I teach people the way of Christ, the one passage that has convinced more of them to become Christians is this one,

Behold, the LORDs hand is not shortened,
That it cannot save;
Nor His ear heavy,
That it cannot hear.
But your iniquities have separated you from your God;
And your sins have hidden His face from you,
So that He will not hear.
(Is. 59:1, 2)

Something was wrong in Israel. God was not hearing their prayers and He would not save them. Was the problem that God was unable to save them, that He could not reach down far enough to help them? No, His hand is not shortened. Was the problem that God's ear had become heavy, unable to hear the prayers of His dear people? No, He can hear perfectly fine. Then what was the problem?

The sins of the people had driven a wedge between God and His people, cutting off fellowship between them. Therefore, it was not that God could not save or hear them, but that He would not, as long as they remained in their sin.

God wants to save and He wants to hear and answer prayers, so much so that He let His Son pay the price, the awful price of removing our sin. Has God forgiven your sins? Have you been baptized in water for God to forgive you of your sins?

QUESTION from todays reading assignment: God wondered that there was no what?
