01.24.2008 Old Testament
To read the Bible in a year, read Exodus 7 and 8 on January 24, AD 2008

We Sure Like to Complicate Things
By Don Ruhl

Moses offered every excuse he could think of for not doing what God said to do. However, the Lord finally convinced Moses and he went to Egypt and spoke to Pharaoh. Yet, Moses still had doubts and did not believe Pharaoh would listen (Exo 6.30). God then explained how Moses and his brother Aaron would approach Pharaoh (Exo 7.1), and then God explained the simple job, "You shall speak all that I command you. And Aaron your brother shall tell Pharaoh to send the children of Israel out of his land" (v. 2). Moses did not have to interpret the word of the Lord; just repeat what he heard from the Lord to the king of Egypt. God further explained the response of Pharaoh and what God would do (vv. 3-5). At the ages of 80 (Moses) and 83 (Aaron), they did what the Lord said to do (vv. 6, 7). You know the rest of the story.

Moses tried to complicate things, but God made it simple. Moses just had to do what God said to do. Do you try to complicate God's instructions?
