Thinking of God
By Don Ruhl

David loved God supremely. Therefore, it bothered the king that he lived in a nice home, but that the Ark of the Covenant only dwelt in a tent. This occurred to David when God had given the king rest, "Now it came to pass when the king was dwelling in his house, and the LORD had given him rest from all his enemies all around" (2Sa 7.1). David said to Nathan the prophet, "See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells inside tent curtains" (v. 2). When Nathan heard that he knew that David wanted to do something great for God. Therefore, knowing that God was with David and that David loved God, Nathan said, "Go, do all that is in your heart, for the LORD is with you" (2Sa 7.3).

God had other plans for David and did not let him build the house of which he dreamed, but just look at the heart of this man of God. He did not think it right that he lived well, while the things of God did not have it as well.

If you have David's heart, what shall you do?
