What Is Your Authority?

Jesus taught and typically the leaders confronted Him (Luke 20.1). They asked, "Tell us, by what authority are You doing these things? Or who is he who gave You this authority?" (v. 2). How would you have answered those questions? Do you know by what authority you operate? Mormons may ask you by what authority you baptize. How would you answer them? Here is how Jesus answered the chief priests and scribes, "But He answered and said to them, 'I also will ask you one thing, and answer Me: The baptism of John--was it from heaven or from men?'" (vv. 3, 4). He first wanted them to know that they were also under obligation to answer questions and they had to be qualified to understand the answer He would give them to their questions. If they could not figure out John's authority for baptism, they could not figure out Jesus' authority for the things He did. 

Answer people's questions, but realize that they have to answer your questions also.
