Read the Bible in a Year This evening read John 13:21--38 Perplexed About a Brother When Jesus revealed that one of the disciples would betray Him, here is the response, 22 Then the disciples looked at one another, perplexed about whom He spoke (Joh. 13:22). They were all holy men. They learned from Jesus and worked with Him for three and a half years. They thought that they all knew one another. How could one of them betray Jesus? None of them could figure out who could do such a dastardly deed. Do you understand the shock that they felt? Yesterday, June 2, I learned of a dear brother, whose influence in the church is greater than anyone I have known personally, who has been involved in a grievous sin for the past twenty years. He was fired from his prestigious position. His wife is divorcing him. His world has fallen. I have known him since the late 1970s and everything about him appeared to be holy. Since learning of this, I have been perplexed, just like the apostles. These things happen. We cannot let things like this shake us from our faith, but we ought to learn from these things that we must keep ourselves pure and make no provisions for the flesh to fulfill its lusts. Moreover, be sure that your faith is in the Lord Jesus Christ, and in nothing else.
