Read the Bible in a Year This morning read Ezra 9 and 10 How Does the Word of God Affect You? I will show you how it affected Ezra's generation. 4 Then everyone who trembled at the words of the God of Israel assembled to me, because of the transgression of those who had been carried away captive, and I sat astonished until the evening sacrifice (Ezr. 9:4). Chapter 10 verse 3 also speaks of those who tremble at the word of God. Why did these people tremble at the words of Scripture? The answer is in both of the verses to which I referred. The words of the Bible are not the words of men, but the words of the God of Israel, who is also the God of the Lord Jesus Christ. Who is God? He is the Creator of all things, both of what we see on earth, and what we cannot see in heaven. He dwells in glorious light that is unapproachable by man. He is holy without any traces of sin. His power is such that He merely has to speak and that which was not suddenly is. When you sit down to read Holy Scripture, keep in mind who gave us this Book. Think on what He wants to say to you. Have profound humility and deep reverence as you meditate. Keeping all these thoughts in mind will help you to understand why Ezra and his generation trembled at the words of God.
