Read the Bible in a Year This evening read Acts 13:26--52 Know the Voices of Biblical Writers Reading the Bible is not the same as knowing what the Bible says. Think on what Paul said to his Jewish brethren, 27 "For those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they did not know Him, nor even the voices of the Prophets which are read every Sabbath, have fulfilled them in condemning Him" (Act. 13:27). Did you catch what Paul said? The Jews in Jerusalem listened to the public reading of the Prophets every Sabbath, yet those Jews did not know the voices of the Prophets! The Jews heard the words, but they did not understand what the Prophets said. Someone read the Scriptures in the synagogues, but their minds were not into it. The Prophets had an audience every Sabbath, but those listening did not make a connection between all that the various prophets said. Therefore, the Jews did not know Jesus, the very One whom the Prophets were announcing was to come, and the Jews killed Him as a result. You read Scripture and hear it read, but ask yourself if you know what is being read.
