Read the Bible in a Year This morning read Job 41 and 42 Whom Does God Owe? Fill your heart with this passage today. God said to Job, 11 "Who has preceded Me, that I should pay him? Everything under heaven is Mine." (Job 41:11). Do you know how rich Bill Gates is? Do those of you in other countries know of Bill Gates? He is an American whose company is Microsoft. This man is so wealthy that his money is not measured in millions of American dollars, but in billions of American dollars. It is hard to calculate his wealth, because of the fluctation of Microsoft stock. Sometimes it has been as high as 90 billion! He built his house at a cost of 50 million dollars. He could never spend all his money. He probably could never give it all away. But what is Bill Gates to the One who owns everything under heaven? At the writing of this devotional, Friday, July 8, 2005, I am in Brookings, Oregon, helping my dad recover from major heart surgery. He lives high up on a mountain side in one of the river canyons. However, there are some people who live at the top, and they were there first before people started building down below them. They think that they own the mountain. However, Someone else preceded them, and owned and still owns this mountain. He is the same One who asked Job the question above. Never forget the One who has preceded us all and who owns everything, including everything we have and even our own breath. If you think on the question of God today, watch what it does to your attitude toward everyone and everything today.
