Read the Bible in a Year This evening read Acts 17:1--15 How Did They Turn the World Upside Down? The reputation of Paul, Silas, and Timothy preceded them. Therefore, when they entered Thessalonica, the Jews were troubled and persuaded some of the townspeople to oppose the three men. Luke wrote, 6 But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some brethren to the rulers of the city, crying out, "These who have turned the world upside down have come here too" (Act. 17:6). What were the three preachers doing? Back in verses 2 and 3, Luke wrote that Paul went into the synagogue and 2b reasoned with them from the Scriptures, 3 explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, "This Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ" (Act. 17:2b, 3). It was simple. Paul reasoned from the Scriptures, explaining and demonstrating the truth about Jesus Christ. That upset the unbelieving Jews. Moreover, it caused many people to be converted. Sometimes doing the same thing today does not upset people and does not convert people. That does not mean that you are not doing what Paul did, but if you keep at it long enough, the times and the people will change, and so opposition will arise, and people will be converted. Keep living the Scriptures and watch what happens.
