Read the Bible in a Year
This morning read Psalms 7--9

Have I Provoked Him?

It is perplexing when someone is against us and we do not know the cause, if there truly is a cause. David prayed to God,

3	O LORD my God, if I have done this:
	If there is iniquity in my hands,
4	If I have repaid evil to him who was at peace with me,
	Or have plundered my enemy without cause,
5	Let the enemy pursue me and overtake me;
	Yes, let him trample my life to the earth,
	And lay my honor in the dust.
	Selah
	(Psa. 7:3--5).

Before David could utter such words, he had to look deep into his life (because that is what God does) to see whether he had provoked his enemy, and if he had, David repented of his error. David was not maintaining that the enemy had a right to treat David badly if he had done the enemy wrong, but David did not have a right either to provoke his enemy.

I strongly urge you to do what David did, but before asking you to do it, I have already done it myself concerning those who oppose me.
