Read the Bible in a Year
This evening read Acts 19:1--20

The Demon Had It Right

Whenever someone quotes another who is not a writer of a biblical book, such as Paul, you need who that person is. Even demons know this. In Acts 19, Luke tells us about seven Jewish brothers who thought they could cast out demons by merely commanding a demon in the name of Jesus whom Paul preached. I love this response,

15 And the evil spirit answered and said, "Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?" (Act. 19:15).

I have had people quote a favorite for explaining why that person did not have to follow the Bible or why they rejected what I was teaching, and I always ask, "Who is [John Doe]?" Yes, quote to me someone who can help me to understand the Scriptures, but do not quote them as though they are equal in authority with a Holy Spirit-inspired, Jesus Christ-appointed apostle.

Do not fear to ask such a question, because matters of spirituality are far too important to let pass.
