This evening read Acts 20:17--38

Let the Emotion Flow

Paul spoke with the Ephesian elders, reminding them of his work among them, and giving them instructions on their work as elders. During the course of his talk, he mentioned that they would never see him again. They loved this man dearly. Therefore, when they heard that they would never see him again, they could not restrain the well of emotion that was seeking a way out, so, they let the emotion flow.

37 Then they all wept freely, and fell on Paul's neck and kissed him, 38 sorrowing most of all for the words which he spoke, that they would see his face no more. And they accompanied him to the ship (Act. 20:37, 38).

It is unfortunate that some have abused emotion, letting their lives and their churches be guided by it, because others have responded equally erroneously by denying any place for emotion in life, religion, and the church. The Ephesian elders were perfectly within God's acceptance. Let us imitate them.
