Read the Bible in a Year
This morning read Psalms 57--59

Is It a Time to Speak?

Sometimes it is better to remain silent, especially if the rage in a controversy is such that no one will listen to you or to reason. This is why Jesus remained silent during His trials. What good would it have been for Him to speak? Then again, there are times to speak. Peter and the other apostles should have spoken up for Christ. Psalm 58:1 presents some questions,

1	Do you indeed speak righteousness, you silent ones?
Do you judge uprightly, you sons of men?
	(Psa. 58:1).

Sometimes we promote righteousness by remaining silent, such as with Jesus remaining silent during His trials. Sometimes we promote righteousness by speaking, such as what His apostles should have done during His trials. There have been times when I wish that someone had spoken up for me, and his or her silence hurt me deeply. Therefore, I have had to think of the times when others have been persecuted on whether I would promote righteousness by speaking for them. When I have, it was a blessed experience. The next time someone needs defending, do it.
