Read the Bible in a Year This evening read First Corinthians 5 Tolerance versus Intolerance Some churches in their self-righteousness have no tolerance for others. Other churches in their lack of discernment tolerate everything. First Corinthians 5 addresses the latter problem. The Corinthian Church tolerated a member who was committing sexual immorality with his stepmother, possibly having married her. Paul said to them, 2 And you are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he who has done this deed might be taken away from among you (1 Cor. 5:2). We want to avoid the extremes of self-righteousness and lack of discernment. The easiest way to do that is to follow the Lord, imitating Him in His treatment of people.
