Read the Bible in a Year
This evening read First Corinthians 11:17--34

Do We Go for Better Or for Worse?

We are use to hearing language like that for marriage, but think of it in relation to assembling with the church. Paul does in First Corinthians 11:17,

17 Now in giving these instructions I do not praise you, since you come together not for the better but for the worse (1 Cor. 11:17).

The Corinthians were divided and so their worship services were not for the better, but for the worse. For what are you looking when you assemble with the church? Are you looking to find something wrong? If so, you will find it, because you are watching imperfect humans worship the perfect God. Therefore, your time will be for the worse and you will make it worse for others. Are you looking to find something right? If so, you will find it, because you are watching imperfect humans whose hearts seek to be perfect with the perfect God, and He overlooks their imperfections when they seek Him with their whole hearts. Therefore, your time will be for the better and you will make it better for others.
