This morning read Proverbs 19--21

A Way to Be Slow to Anger

Do you have problems with anger? Proverbs 19:11 offers insight to slow down that anger.

11	The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger,
And his glory is to overlook a transgression.
	(Pro. 19:11).

Why do we get angry? Often it is because someone has sinned. We are angry over the wrong thing that they committed.

Solomon says two things here, and perhaps they are one, but in the form of a synonymous parallel. He said that discretion makes a man slow to anger and a man's glory is to overlook a transgression. He who is discerning will overlook a transgression. There is a time to deal with sin, but there is a time to overlook it. The man of discernment knows when to do each.

The man of discernment always remembers that he also sins. He seeks to understand other people and their circumstances. Yes, sin is sin, and if we do not live lives of repentance, then we shall reap serious consequences, but it is also true that the other person needs compassion and patience from us, even as we want from him!

Think today how discretion will slow down your anger. Then see if by such thoughts you start to be slow to anger.
