This evening read Second Corinthians 8

Begging to Give

We have to beg some people to give for a worthy cause and others beg us to be able to give to the worthy cause. What is the difference? Paul spoke of the churches of Macedonia,

3 For I bear witness that according to their ability, yes, and beyond their ability, they were freely willing, 4 imploring us with much urgency that we would receive the gift and the fellowship of the ministering to the saints (2 Cor. 8:3, 4).

How did the churches of Macedonia enter into the state of mind that they begged Paul to receive their gift? Paul revealed the secret in verse 1,

1 Moreover, brethren, we make known to you the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia... (2 Cor. 8:1).

Those people knew the grace of God. Therefore, knowing what they had received from God, they searched desperately for a way to show grace to others. They found an outlet, and although they actually were in need themselves, they were compelled to give.

Do you know the grace of God?
