Read the Bible in a Year This morning read Proverbs 25 and 26 The Power of Gentleness Some people believe the only way to change the beliefs and behavior of other people is to be belligerent about it, using intimidation and other mean-spirited tactics. Yet, there is another way to change people, which is just the opposite of belligerence. However, it requires that the belligerent change their beliefs and behavior to be able to use this method. 15 By long forbearance a ruler is persuaded, And a gentle tongue breaks a bone. (Pro. 25:15). Yes, you can break a sidewalk with a jackhammer or the tree root by long forbearance and gentleness will do the same thing. Truly, the latter takes longer, but it is not as messy as the former. Likewise, you can break the bone with violence, or you can break it with gentleness. The former is pure destruction, but the latter pictures a person who bends to the wishes of the gentle. Are you gentle or belligerent?
