Read the Bible in a Year This morning read Ecclesiastes 7--9 Quick Anger Is Not Good It seems as though the Bible always speaks against being hasty, regardless of that for which we are being hasty. Perhaps there is an exception. Let me know. Solomon tells us another thing for which we should not be hasty. 9 Do not hasten in your spirit to be angry, For anger rests in the bosom of fools. (Ecc. 7:9). If we hasten to be angry, we may learn later that we were wrong for doing so and regret it. It can be embarrassing. For example, this past Friday, September 16, was the first day of a Creation Seminar, hosted by the Savage Street Church of Christ. It was to start at 7 pm. At 6:30, I was helping our first speaker set up his computer for a presentation. For some reason, the color was not right on the projection screen. The color was perfect on his computer. Earlier in the day, someone had worked on the video projector, yet, my computer worked just fine after the work. Nevertheless, in my heart I started to blame the one who added a piece to the projector. It was 6:35. I kept playing with all the adjustments, and nothing would change. Soon it was 6:45. I am sweating, increasing in my inward anger. It was not apparent to anyone who saw me or talked with me. My anger was in my spirit, as Solomon mentions above. Someone suggested that I hook up my computer, since it worked earlier in the day. I dismissed the suggestion. Finally at 6:50, with ten minutes to go, and all my efforts fruitless, I thought that I should do what was suggested and I got my computer, hooked it up, and the color was perfect! Then, the speaker, my dear friend for 27 years, reminded me that when we did this Creation Seminar in Emmett, Idaho that his adapter for connecting the video projector cable to his computer was bad. He reminded me that I had told him at that time, that he needed to replace it. I looked at him again and said, brother, you need to get a new adapter! Quickly, I got him a blank CD, he burned his presentation onto the CD, we put it on my computer that was already hooked up, and he did his presentation from my computer. We were ready on time, and no one knew that if we had not fixed the problem that they would not have been able to see what he wanted to show because the color was so bad. In fact, most did not even know that there was a problem. To say the least, I was very ashamed for becoming silently angry in my spirit with someone who did nothing wrong. For a moment, anger rested in the bosom of a fool. Watch yourself today and see if you hasten in your spirit to be angry, and if you do, turn it off quicker than you turned it on, lest anger rest in the bosom of a fool.
