COLUMN: Reality Check

Subliminal
by Stan Mitchell

One hundred thousand fans filled the stadium. Many
payed scalper's prices that would buy an Audi.
Millions more watched on television. In Brazil,
business halted when their team practiced. This
was bigger than the NBA finals, bigger than the
Super Bowl. It was the soccer World Cup.

It escaped the notice, however, of Americans for
the most part. Moslems in Morocco watched, sheep
farmers in Australia huddled around short-wave
radios. Japanese watched it on Sonys, and Welshmen
in their pubs, but in America it was hardly a blip
on the radar.

This would be the equivalent of a snail crossing a
six lane freeway and not noticing the eighteen
wheelers!

Likewise most people live out their lives hardly
aware of the spiritual element in life. Like
soccer (but more so), God's hand reaches to the
farthest corners of the globe. In every place
where you might see little boys kicking a ball
round a dusty field, God is there too. They are
both omnipresent, it seems. Yet most people will
go for months, years perhaps, without giving God
and his desires a thought. Yet he is all around
us, sending us sunshine and rain, justice and
mercy. And it escapes our notice completely.

"In the past, God overlooked such ignorance, but
now he calls on all people, everywhere, to repent.
For he has set a day when he will judge the world
with justice by the man he has appointed" (Acts
17:30,31).

Has God slipped by your notice lately? There will
come a day of justice, and it is one you cannot
ignore!
