Actually, the files that make it fail are only about 70k, but the
machine that does this is a performa 475 running 7.5.5 or something, so
no folder actions there anyway. I would just rather handle it from
within my little app and not have to set up stuff like that upon future
possible reconfiguring anyway. 

I'm ignorant of all things PG, but I'll go hunting for IsFileBusy, as
that sounds exactly what I am looking for. Thanks for the tip.
