Mel Patrick asked for a foolproof way to find whether a PICT is monochrome
or colour.  I am not clear whether monochrome means black, shades of grey
or one colour of any hue.  However, there is a Toolbox function
GETPICTINFO which returns both the number of unique colours and the colour
table and other information.  Could that be used to answer the posed
question?
