That's correct.  This preference setting was not available in older versions of
the OS (before 7.5?) and in those versions the Staz FN would always work.  In
newer OS versions, it is still possible to have your program set the initially
displayed folder, but it's more work than it used to be.  I have a DCOD that
does this trick, but it's just for displaying a folder-selection dialog, not a
file-selection dialog.  If I can get some spare time, I'll try to put together
a demo of how to do it for a file-selection dialog (unless somebody else wants
to step forward first).
