Dear list members, it is time now -- I think -- to announce another -- hopefully useful -- software tool that was built by using FB: UpDater From the Read Me Files: _ WHAT FOR__________________________________________________ UpDater is a compact and flexible tool for software developers who wish to provide updates for their applications. UpDater safely removes, adds and replaces resources located in the resource fork of a single target file. UpDater is easy to configure by entering task specific instructions and resources to its resource fork. _ DEMO_______________________________________________________ An UpDater Demo is available that replaces and removes resources of a supplied SimpleText document. (The 'styl' resource is replaced and two 'PICT' resources are added.) UpDater Demo is a normal version of UpDater that has been configured according to this update task. You may reconfigure UpDater Demo for your specific updating tasks. All you need for doing this are the UpDater configuration instructions that will be sent, if you are registered user (see below). _ REGISTRATION______________________________________________ To configure UpDater the structure of some of its resources must be known. Upon reception of the registration fee, ResEdit templates for and detailed descriptions of UpDater's configuration will be returned. After registration you may distribute as many copies of configured UpDaters for as many different updating tasks as you like. However, you may not distribute the supplied ResEdit templates and the descriptions of UpDater configuration! Registration fee is $ 25.-- (add $ 5.-- for orders from outside the EC) ************************************************************** Background: For various reasons UpDater has been realized by using FB II. It consists of a search engine, a file copy engine, the update kernel and a save restart routine that all are managed by the central control and error handling unit. In its non configured state UpDater occupies only about 50kB of Diskspace. It requires less than 100kB of RAM, independent of the size and number of the resources to be moved during an update process. Those of you, who are interested in UpDater, please email me privately! I shall send you UpDater Demo and its files as an email attachment. (For comments -- that are highly appreciated -- please email me privately!) Best wishes to all, and again many thanks to the FB developers, Herbie ************************************************************* H.Glu@...
