After mich research, I found that the problem (in my case) is not the Finders.  While working on an app (that had a minor memory trashing bug in it), the OS would stay stable for an hour then the Finder would be the fist app to notice - and then crash.  I tested a couple of other apps that I knew crashed when doing certain things, they would not crash - the Finder would quit instead.

So my _theory_ is that if you Finder quits, you have run a bad app, that has over-written memory.  Since most of the other times it happens when I am using Netscape or IE, this comes as no suprise :-)
