A few things to remember. A Standard MIDI File (SMF) is just a set of
instructions to the sound module, whether its an external synth or your
onboard QuickTime instruments, to play a given pitch for a given length
of time. (Actually start note and stop note commands). When you open the
MIDI file with PlayerPro or any sequencing program (I use Opcode's
Vision) you will see a representation of all those note commands. Most
programs support the Piano Player Roll view. Some (and I'm not sure about
PlayerPro) will show your MIDI data using conventional notation. Editing
or extracting protions of that tune is just a matter of cutting, pasting,
deleting as in normal Mac programs. Drag thru a section of your piano
roll, hit DELETE, then play the data and only the remaining parts will
play.
It's not clear from your post whether you have actual MIDI files. If you
will e-mail me provately, I'll try to help further.
