It would seem however that you're using a mail client that displays HTML
text, or you have strange settings for text.
If quotes appear as italics than either:
- switch off HTML display [it's yukey anyway]
- change the settings to something other than than Italic [much more
legible]
- see if you can incorporate an external style sheet that overrides the
default settings]

In my book quotemarks are welcome as they allow one to build up the
interplay of cross posts that come to make up a post.
