My guess (and it really is just a guess) is that FBII keeps its preferences in one or more resources within the compiler itself, in the case of preferences that apply across the board to all projects, and in the project (ΒΌ) files for those that are project related. This guess is partially based on the facts that 1) there doesn't seem to be any FB files in the preferences folder in the system folder and 2) every time I apply an update the preferences revert to "factory" settings and I have to reset them. You may have a damaged resource fork in the FB compiler itself and this could cause a crash when you try to access them or update them. The same could be true if the resource fork of the project file is damaged. You might be able to verify this by opening the files in ResEdit. ResEdit runs an integrity check of the file when it first opens it and will report any anomalies it finds. You might try reloading FB from the original floppies and re-applying the latest update. If the resource fork is damaged on your hard drive this should correct the problem. You can trash the project files without worry and FB will create new ones when you open a source file in the folder. If it turns out that you have a damaged resource fork you might want to check out the condition of your drives with Norton Disk Doctor. You might also sweep them for viruses. Hope this helps...
