Dear list members, the list is rather short these days and so I may perhaps tackle a less important topic. Until I went into the details of Apple's Appearance Manger (you can download the latest Appearance SDK 1.0.4 from Apple's web site; Appearance Manger is part of the system since OS 8, but you may install it on all systems back to OS 7.1) I was convinced that ResEdit (no longer supported by Apple since 1995) is powerful enough to do the job for all my programming. However, if one wishes to use the features of Appearance Manger and Resources such as ALRTs, DITLs, DLOGs, WINDs, etc. for easy editing and localizing, then, I must admit, ResEdit doesn't do the job anymore. As far as I know, the only alternative to the free ResEdit is the commercial Resorcerer (you may download the latest Demo Version 2.2 from http://www.mathemaesthetics.com). It presents powerful tools for nearly all kinds of Resource Editing, however at the price of a much more complex user interface and $256,-- (there are reductions up to 30% for teachers, etc.). The price of $256 appears somewhat high, at least to me, especially when compared to the one year Subscription to FB^3 which presently is $169 for updates from FBII. Now, my suggestion: STAZ Inc. could negotiate with Mathemaesthetics Inc. and hopefully they will grant STAZ Inc. a considerable reduction for selling Resorcerer -- as an attractively priced option -- bundled with FB^3 Subscriptions, for those of us who wish to have it. In fact, aren't it the makers of IDEs (Integrated Development Environments), such as STAZ Inc., who do the implicit marketing for Mathemaesthetics Inc. OK, there also is Apple and all those localizing teams around the world... Just an idea. I myself ordered Resorcerer already. Best, Herbie ******************************************* H.Glu@...
